The Dirty Dozen: Pesticides in Produce
The “Dirty Dozen” is a list of fruits and vegetables with the most pesticide residue. Made by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), it includes Strawberries, Spinach, Kale, Nectarines, Grapes, Peaches, Cherries, Pears, Apples, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Potatoes. Pesticides help protect crops, but over time, they may affect health-especially in children. Most experts say produce is safe, but some worry about long-term effects.
EWG suggests buying organic for these foods when you can. Organic foods are lower in chemicals but can still use natural pesticides and may cost more.
My advice eating fruits and veggies is very importan-even if they aren’t organic. To lower pesticide levels:
– Wash well with Apple Cider Vinegar
– Soak in baking soda water or boil briefly
Bottom line: Eat your fruits and veggies-just clean them well and enjoy a healthy balanced diet
